Four Dores Remain Undefeated in Commodore Scramble

Nov. 7, 2015

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After going 6-2 in singles and 5-1 in doubles on day two of the Commodore Scramble, the No. 24 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team looks to cap off their fall tournament season Sunday morning.

“I think it was another good day today,” said associate head coach Jamie Hunt. “We got some tougher matches in which were good, that’s what we want. Daniel Valent won a really tough three-setter coming back after begin down 5-1, and Alex Ross won a really tough three-setter and that’s what we want. We want those tough matches and to see them come through at the end. So it was a good day and we’re hoping to end the fall on a positive note tomorrow.”

The Dores took to the courts of the Currey Tennis Center first in doubles action, going undefeated in the first round of play with Rhys Johnson and Pen Binet pulling out a resilient 8-7(6) victory over MTSU’s Zhymantovich and Raschiatore.

Successful doubles play carried over into round two, with the Commodores finding themselves with only one loss to their name heading into singles play. Vandy’s lone tandems defeat came at the hands of Louisville as Hedley and Lock won 8-4 over Baker Newman and Valent.

In singles play Valent pulled out an electric three-set victory after felling in his second set to split. Once in the third the sophomore rallied from a 5-1 deficit to defeat an SEC opponent in Alabama’s Matt Roussow; 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
