Four Dores Ready for U.S. Amateur

Gordon Sargent, Jackson Van Paris, Wells Williams, and Ryan Downes will play in the 124th U.S. Amateur Championship in Chaska, Minnesota

CHASKA, Minn. – Four Vanderbilt men’s golfers are set to participate in the 124th U.S. Amateur Championship at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, on Aug. 12-18.

Seniors Gordon Sargent and Jackson Van Paris, along with junior Wells Williams and freshman Ryan Downes will play in the leading annual golf tournament in the United States for amateur golfers. Sargent heads into the U.S. Amateur as the world’s top-ranked amateur in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, while Van Paris currently stands at No. 7 in the WAGR.

The 124th U.S. Amateur features 312 golfers competing over seven days. The tournament consists of two days of stroke play, with the leading 64 competitors moving on to match play to decide the champion. All knockout matches are over 18 holes except for the final, which consists of 36 holes, separated into morning and afternoon 18-hole rounds.

Van Paris is grouped with David Ford and Jose Luis Ballester. He tees off Round 1 at 7:33 a.m. CT and Round 2 at 1:03 p.m. CT.

Sargent will play with Jackson Koivun and Luke Clanton during stroke play. The group tees off Round 1 at 2:09 p.m. CT and Round 2 at 8:39 a.m. CT.

Williams is paired up with Ashton McCulloch and Colin Prater. They open Round 1 at 1:14 p.m. CT and Round 2 at 7:44 a.m. CT.

Downes tees off with Lev Grinberg Payne Denman in Round 1 at 1:25 p.m. CT and opens Round 2 at 7:55 a.m. CT.

Golf Channel and Peacock will provide live coverage at the 124th U.S. Amateur starting Wednesday and ending Sunday. The first three rounds of match play air Wednesday-Friday on Peacock from 4-5 p.m. CT before heading to Golf Channel from 5-7 p.m. CT. Golf Channel will have semifinals coverage on Saturday from 2-5 p.m. CT, while Sunday’s championship will air from 1-4 p.m. CT.
