Four Dores Make Academic All-District Team

Vandy swimmers earn recognition from College Sports Communicators

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Four members of the Vanderbilt swimming program were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® team including one repeat honoree. Emily Constable, Melissa Cowen, Kate Heintz and Aubrey Hull were recognized for their work in the classroom and the pool, with Heintz earning the distinction for the second time in as many seasons.

To be named Academic All-District®, individuals are required to be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically, swim in 75 percent of the team’s competitions or participate in a national championship, and carry a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

A sophomore from Westfield, New Jersey, Constable met the CSCAA National Invitational Championship B standard in three events this season—the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke—while ranking third on the squad in the 100 and 200 breast. She recorded her best mark of the campaign in the 100 freestyle and 200 breast at the SEC Championships in February, and also advanced to the C Final of the 100 and 200 breast at Houston’s Phill Hansel Invitational in the fall. Constable is majoring in human & organizational development and made the 2024-25 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.

In her first season as a Commodore, Cowen posted marks that are among the top 10 in program history in the 50 freestyle and 100 and 200 breast including ranking second in the latter event. One of two Vandy swimmers to compete at the CSCAA NIC—highlighted by a third-place finish in the 200 breast A Final—she just missed advancing to finals in the discipline at the SEC Championships after placing 26th overall. Originally from Auckland, New Zealand, the psychology major earned CSCAA Scholar All-American honors as a freshman at Florida in 2023-24.

Heintz made the CSCAA NIC B cut in the 100 and 200 fly this winter, with her best time in the former event leading the Dores while also moving her into eighth place all-time at Vandy; she was among the top five on the team in the 200 fly, 100 free and 500 freestyle as well. The junior was 31st overall in the 200 fly at the SEC Championships, where she also posted a career-low time to pace the Commodores in the 100 fly. A resident of Southlake, Texas, she has been on the SEC Academic Honor Roll each of the last two years and is majoring in both engineering science and communication of science & technology.

The school record holder in the 100 and 200 backstroke, Hull set both standards last month at the CSCAA NIC Championship where she finished third in the A Final of the former and won the B Final of the latter. Not only did the Charlotte, North Carolina, native lead Vanderbilt in each discipline, including placing 28th in the 100 back and 35th in the 200 back at this season’s SEC Championships, she had the team’s fastest time in the 100 free also. The sophomore, who is a human & organizational development major, was named to the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.
