NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Four members of the Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team earned All-Region recognition from the IWLCA this week. Senior Kate Hickman and sophomore Sasha Cielak were first-team honorees, while junior Molly Frew and sophomore Margie Curran were named to the second team. Hickman, who completed her collegiate eligibility this season, put her mark on the Vanderbilt record books this season. With her third-consecutive season with more than 40 goals, Hickman ranks third all-time in goals scored and points at Vanderbilt. She led the Commodores in both categories this season for the second straight time. In only her second year as a Commodore, Cielak has solidified her position as Vanderbilt’s best matchup defender. She led the team in caused turnovers and ground balls this season with consistently marking the opponent’s top attacker. Frew has started every game in her three-year career at Vanderbilt and was selected as a team captain by her peers this season. She was second on the team in caused turnovers and ground balls while playing a leadership role on the Commodores’ backline. Only a sophomore, Curran reached the 100-point plateau by tallying six goals against No. 7 Notre Dame in the final game of the 2006 season. She led the Commodores in assists (23) and was a close second in goals and points. Hickman and Cielak both earned second-team honors a year ago. All four Commodores earned All-Conference recognition in May. In all, 128 Division I student-athletes in four regions were honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association. The IWLCA established a West/Midwest Region prior to the 2006 season, and Vanderbilt was moved from the South Region. |
