NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The second, third, and honorable mention 2024 Division I PING All-America teams have been announced by the GCAA Wednesday, as a quartet of Vanderbilt men’s golfers were selected.
Graduate student Matthew Riedel and senior Cole Sherwood earned GCAA Division I PING second-team All-Americans, while graduate student William Moll and junior Jackson Van Paris picked up GCAA Division I PING All-American honorable mention nods. They join junior Gordon Sargent on the 2024 Division I PING All-America teams, as he was named GCAA Division I PING first-team All-American last week. This year’s five selections to the 2024 GCAA Division I PING All-America teams were the most for any team this season, while it also marked a program record for most selections in a single season.
It’s the second GCAA All-American selection for Riedel, as he earned an honorable mention selection last season. The Houston, Texas, native has had a stellar 2023-24 campaign, holding a team-best scoring average of 70.11 through 12 tournaments. The 2024 Haskins Award finalist tied for second in stroke play at the 2024 SEC Championship, as he carded 6-under 204. The All-American also posted a runner-up finish at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational and has collected seven top-10 finishes this season. In addition, Riedel has placed in the top five at four tournaments. The graduate student finished No. 4 in the PGA Tour U. rankings and will make his Korn Ferry Tour debut this week in Greer, South Carolina, at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX.
Sherwood picked up his third career GCAA Division I PING All-America team selection, as he was named to the first team in 2022 and earned an honorable mention nod in 2023. The senior from Austin, Texas, had a spectacular final season in the black and gold, as he held a stroke average of 70.22 through 12 tournaments. The All-American won the 2023 Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational in October to claim his third career collegiate win. Sherwood has collected four top-five finishes and placed inside the top 10 seven times this season. He finished No. 7 in the PGA Tour University rankings, and will also make his Korn Ferry Tour debut this week at the BMW Charity Pro-Am.
Moll was selected to a GCAA Division I PING All-America team for the fourth time. He becomes the fourth Commodore to earn four GCAA All-American honors during their Vanderbilt career, as he joins Luke List, Patrick Martin, and John Augenstein. The Houston, Texas, native was named to the second team in 2021 and earned a spot on the third team in 2023. This is Moll’s second honorable mention selection, as he also earned the distinction in 2022. Moll posted five top-10 finishes this season and became the first Commodore to win an NCAA Regional, as he was the individual medalist at the 2024 NCAA West Lafayette Regional. He held a scoring average of 71.19 this season and has carded under par in 18 rounds. Moll’s victory at the West Lafayette Regional propelled him to No. 6 in the PGA Tour U. rankings and he will make his Korn Ferry Tour debut this week at the BMW Charity Pro-Am.
Van Paris’ breakout campaign earned him his first GCAA All-America honorable mention selection. The Pinehurst, North Carolina, native scored his first collegiate victory at the 2023 St Andrews Links Collegiate, winning stroke play with a two-round total of 9-under 131. The junior made his PGA Tour debut at the 2024 Puerto Rico Open in March, finishing in a tie for 10th. Van Paris went a perfect 3-0-0 in match play at the 2024 SEC Championship and has posted four top-10 finishes. The junior held a scoring average of 70.67.
Dores on the Korn Ferry Tour
The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will be well-represented at this week’s Korn Ferry Tour event. A total of five former Commodores will be competing at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX in Greer, South Carolina.
