NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In addition to earning SEC Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors on Monday, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia received four national awards after his performance in the Commodores’ win over Auburn last weekend.
The graduate quarterback has been named the Associated Press’ National Player of the Week, has been chosen to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 and a Manning Award Star of the Week, and was selected the Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week. As a candidate for the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week, Vandy fans can vote here until 10 a.m. CT Wednesday for Pavia to claim an additional honor.
Against the Tigers, Pavia recorded a career-best 489 yards of total offense—the second-highest number posted by a Dore since 1996—while accounting for four touchdowns as Vanderbilt rallied for a 45-38 overtime victory at FirstBank Stadium. He had 377 yards with three touchdowns passing after completing 25-of-33 attempts, and he also ran for a season-best 112 yards and a score with his 7-yard touchdown rush in the opening minute of the fourth quarter giving the Commodores their first lead in the contest. Pavia would then go on to find Cole Spence for the game-winning 4-yard scoring pass in the first extra period.
With the effort, the Albuquerque, New Mexico, resident became the first individual in program history to throw for more than 300 yards and rush for over 100 in a game as well as the first player to post multiple seasons with over 3,000 yards of total offense in the school’s record book.
It’s the third time this fall that Pavia has earned weekly honors from both the Davey O’Brien and Manning Awards.
The Commodores—who are now 13th and 14th, respectively, in this week’s Associated Press and AFCA coaches’ polls—return to action on Nov. 22 when Kentucky comes to FirstBank Stadium for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
