BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt’s Dimitri Moore has been named to the Freshman All-Southeastern Conference Team at linebacker following a stellar regular season, the league office announced on Thursday.
The Cedar Hill, Texas, native played in all 12 games for the Commodores, earning 10 starts as a redshirt freshman. Moore finished second on the team with 79 total tackles, chipping in 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three pass breakups and four quarterback hurries.
Moore recorded at least eight total stops in seven of 12 games. He had his best collegiate outing Oct. 12 vs. Florida, finishing with a career-high 11 total stops including seven solo tackles.
The former two-time high school team captain becomes the first Vanderbilt player since linebacker Nigel Bowden in 2014 to receive the honor. He is the ninth VU linebacker in the last 30 years to be named Freshman All-SEC.
The Commodores have punched their ticket to the postseason and will take on Baylor in the Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston on Dec. 27. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. CT.
