NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s golf wraps up its fall season this week at The Ally in West Point, Mississippi. The Commodores have twice competed in this annual tournament hosted at Old Waverly Golf Club, with the most recent appearance coming in 2021. The historic Old Waverly Club has held many of golf’s top tournaments, including the 1999 U.S. Women’s Open and the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur.
“It’s hard to believe we’re playing our last team event of the fall,” said head coach Greg Allen. “It seems like just last week we were heading to Pebble Beach. It’s good to be back at Old Waverly as it is not often our girls get to play courses that have hosted a U.S. Women’s Open.”
Vanderbilt will use a lineup similar to the previous three tournaments this fall. Sophomores Ava Merrill and Sara Im will lead the Commodores alongside juniors Lynn Lim and Tillie Claggett. Charlene Chung will make her first appearance on the scoring side for Vanderbilt since the season-opener at the Carmel Cup. Competing as individuals this week are sophomore Macie Brown and freshman Claire Henson.
“We obviously did not play to our standard last weekend in Chapel Hill,” said Allen. “So, we are ready to get back out there and play our kind of golf.”
The Commodores were recently ranked No. 11 in the country in the updated NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Rankings by Clippd.
This week’s field consists of No. 19 Auburn, Florida, Indiana, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Louisiana Monroe, Mercer, No. 5 Mississippi State, Old Dominion, Sam Houston State, Southern Mississippi, Troy, UAB, Western Kentucky and Wisconsin.
“We’re getting to see a couple really good SEC teams that we haven’t played against yet,” said Allen. “It will be important for us to come out ready to play Monday morning and be locked in for all three rounds.”
Vanderbilt will tee off at 9:33 a.m. CT on Monday. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
