PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 8 Vanderbilt soccer shut out No. 19 Georgia in a 2-0 decision on Thursday night in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament at the Brosnaham Soccer Complex to advance to the championship match. It marks Vandy’s first win over the Bulldogs since the 2021 season.
Sydney Watts registered her third brace of the season, fifth of her career. Watts opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finishing a cross from freshman Olivia Stafford to give the Commodores an early lead.
Watts doubled the advantage in the 68th minute, converting a pass from Maci Teater for her 14th goal of the season. Watts’ 14 goals on the year tie Haley Hopkins for sixth most in a single season and are the most by an individual since 2019.

Keeper Sara Wojdelko needed just one save to register her ninth shutout of the season, tied for the third most in a single season in program history. It also marks the most shutouts by a goalkeeper in a season since Rachel Bachtel in 2009. The graduate now has 20 career clean sheets, also tied for third in program history.
The Commodores (15-3-1) dominated possession at 56 percent and outshot Georgia (10-4-6) 14-5, including a 7-1 edge in shots on target.
Vanderbilt returns to the pitch on Sunday afternoon to face LSU in the championship of the SEC Tournament. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. CT and will be shown on SEC Network.
