NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Concluding the second day of the Commodore Scramble, three Commodores claimed their spots in the singles finals while one Dore pair will fight for the doubles title on Sunday.
Resulting in six Vanderbilt victories, the Dores opened day two competing in the second round of singles followed by collecting two wins in the third round of doubles.
Remaining perfect, doubles tandem Max Freeman and Rowe overcame a close battle against Auburn’s De Vincentis and Chavarria, winning the tiebreaker 8-7 (5) to advance to the doubles final. Freeman and Rowe will face Lipscomb’s Chaw and Uribe on Sunday for the title.
Starting off the third round of singles, junior George Harwell pulled through after dropping the second set to earn the win over Ole Miss’ Slavic, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (7). Harwell’s victory earned marked his spot in the finals of the Gonzalez Austin draw.
Fighting for a spot in the finals of the Chad Harris draw, freshman James Ignatowich remained undefeated earning a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (3) win over Tennessee Tech’s Kubota. The freshman remains a perfect 3-0 in his first collegiate tournament.
On Court 1 for the Dores, Rowe commanded a dominant lead over Auburn’s De Vicentis in the semifinals of the Gonzales Austin draw. Securing the first set 6-2, Rowe fell short in the second set, 6-7. With a spot in the finals on the line, Rowe dominated in the third set to claim his spot in the finals with a 1-0 (3) victory.
The Commodores will begin the final day of the Commodore Scramble on Sunday competiting in doubles at 9 a.m. CT followed by the final round of singles at 10 a.m. CT.
