COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A pair of sophomores helped lead Vanderbilt in the pool on day four of the 2013 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Texas A&M Student Recreation Natatorium.
Elly Faulkner and Lauren Torres recorded second place and third place finishes in their respective events Friday 
night during the finals session. Vanderbilt then closed the meet with the 400 medley relay, and not surprisingly another school record. The team of Faulkner, Torres, Chrissy Oberg and Caroline Thomas demolished the Commodore mark with a time of 3:42.68, breaking the previous record (set in 2011) by eight seconds (3:50.69).
Through four days of competition, Vanderbilt has set 11 new school records (200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 800 free relay, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 200 IM and 50 free). The Commodores remain in 12th place with 140 total points. Georgia continues to lead with 1,058 points.
In the C-Finals of the 100 breaststroke Faulkner touched the wall in a new school record time of 1:01.80, which was good for second place. Faulkner etched her name in the record books earlier in the day with her time of 1:01.94 in the prelims of the 100 breast. Faulkner also set the 200 IM school record on Wednesday.
Torres continued her record-breaking week at the SEC Championships on Friday with a third-place finish in the C-Finals of the 200 butterfly and a new school record time of 1:59.89.It marks the second-straight day, Torres made it back for the finals session.
In the prelims of the 200 butterfly, Torres swam a 2:00.87, which at the time set the school record. That time was nearly two seconds faster than the record set by Leigh-Ann Axt (2:02.32) in 2008.
Of the seven individual school records set this week, three of them now belong to Torres (100 fly, 200 fly and 200 free).
In the prelims of the 100 backstroke, Oberg broke teammate, Jess Eccher’s record of 57.04 (2011) with a time of 54.93. Oberg missed out on an appearance in the finals by less than half a second. Hannah Martin (56.45) and Alexis Mayhall (56.83) also posted times that would have broken the school record.
Faulkner (100 breast) and Oberg (100 back) each posted NCAA “B” qualifying times for the Commodores.
The final day of competition resumes Saturday morning at 10 a.m. CT with prelims in the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke and 1650 freestyle.
