NASHVILLE, Tenn.  On Monday, Vanderbilt forward Taylor Elliott’s senior season to remember got even better.
Elliott was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal and dishing out an assist in the Commodores’ 2-1 overtime victory at No. 8 South Carolina on Friday.
The fifth-year senior from Massapequa, N.Y., tallied a career-high three points and was instrumental in Vanderbilt’s comeback thriller over the Gamecocks. Elliott came in off the bench and tied the game in the 46th minute off an assist from Sasha Gray. Using her left foot, she blasted her third goal of the season just inside the top right corner of the penalty box and into the top of the middle of the net.
She then recorded her first career assist at a huge time – in sudden-death overtime. In the 97th minute, she headed a pass around midfield up to Simone Charley, who sprinted past two defenders and scored a breakaway goal for the game winner. It was Vanderbilt’s first win over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 23 Wisconsin on Sept. 26, 2013.
