Officials are encouraging fans to allow extra time for travel to the Georgia-Vanderbilt game Saturday due to a downtown interstate closure that impacts tradition routes to campus and Vanderbilt Stadium.
Fans arriving for the game from I-24 (Chattanooga), I-65 (Birmingham/Louisville) and I-40 (Memphis/Knoxville) are encouraged to use I-440 as their primary route to Vanderbilt and campus parking garages.
To accommodate early arriving fans, Vanderbilt officials are opening 25th Avenue Garage and West Garage close to the stadium at 10:30 a.m. CT, four hours before kickoff.
Vanderbilt officials are encouraging season ticket holders and Nashville area residents to use traditional surface roads near campus – Charlotte Avenue, Church Street, West End Avenue, 21st Avenue-Hillsboro Blvd., 12th Avenue, Franklin Road and Blakemore Avenue – to arrive at the stadium.
Three traditional downtown exits on I-40 for fans attending games at Vanderbilt – Demonbreun Street, Broadway-West End, and Charlotte Avenue – will not be in service this weekend due to the one-mile closure of I-40 from the I-40/I-65 split west of downtown to the I-40/I-65 split south of downtown. The weekend closure is part of Fast Fix 8, a year-long Tennessee Department of Transportation project to replace several downtown interstate bridges.
Fans getting to the campus via I-440 are encouraged to take use either of two exits – 21st Avenue/Hillsboro and West End. The Blakemore Avenue exit on I-65 south of downtown also goes to the Vanderbilt campus.
