If you plan on visiting Vanderbilt’s campus this weekend for football or basketball games, make sure to leave yourself extra time. In continuing its work to repair bridges on I-40 downtown Nashville, the Tennessee Department of Transportation announced that I-40 from the I-40/I-65 split northwest of downtown to the I-40/I-65 split south of downtown will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. Additionally Charlotte Avenue will be closed from 11th Avenue to 16th Avenue during that same time.
Because of the closure, fans are encouraged to use I-440 as their primary route to Vanderbilt’s campus. When taking I-440 west, the primary exits to campus are 21st Avenue/Hillsboro and West End. When taking I-440 east, exit at Murphy Road and turn left to get to West End Avenue. Visitors from I-65 south can also exit at Wedgewood Avenue to get to campus.
To accommodate early arriving fans for Saturday’s football game, Vanderbilt will open 25th Avenue Garage and West Garage at 11 a.m., four hours before kickoff.
The road closure will prevent fans from using three traditional downtown exits to arrive on campus: Demonbreun Street, Broadway-West End and Charlotte Avenue. All three interchanges will be closed this weekend.
The weekend closure is part of Fast Fix 8, a year-long project to replace several downtown bridges.
