ATLANTA – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team concluded the Georgia Tech Invitational on Monday at the Ken Byers Tennis Center.
In the doubles final of the Navy draw, freshman James Ignatowich and junior Adam Sraberg faced Georgia Tech’s Yun and Freestone for the title. The duo came up short to the Georgia Tech pair in a close match, 7-6.
In singles, junior Macsen Sisam took the court to battle against Georgia Tech’s Keshav Chopra. Sisam came up short in the first set, 6-3, but bounced back to force a third set with a 7-5 defeat in the second. With the title on the line, Sisam fought hard in the final set. However, Chopra outlasted Sisam to claim the match, 6-2.
In the consolation matches, sophomore Christiaan Worst and junior Max Freeman faced Georgia pair Reyes and Grevelius. The Commodore duo took down Bulldogs, 6-3, to claim the title in the White doubles consolation draw.
In the Olde Gold draw, senior Panu Virtanen and sophomore Marcus Ferreira team up to take down Miami’s Aycart and Shimamoto, 6-2.
In the White draw singles consolation matches, three Commodores picked up wins. Junior George Harwell took down Clemson’s Yi Zhou Liu, 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (6) followed by Ignatowich collecting a win due to a withdraw by Pat Harper (Tennessee). In the White Consolation draw, Ferreira took down Miami’s Franco Aubone in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
The Dores will be back in action at the Currey Tennis Center as they host the Ohio Valley Regionals beginning on Oct. 24 in Nashville, Tennessee.
