Soccer faces Florida on Friday afternoon

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – RV/- Vanderbilt soccer will visit Florida on Friday afternoon in a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff. The match will be shown on SEC Network+.

Vanderbilt (7-2-5, 2-2-3) picked up its second conference win on Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 decision over Kentucky. The Wildcats struck first after a foul in the box resulted in a made penalty kick to go up 1-0 in the opening 30 seconds. The Commodores responded two and half minutes later off a goal from Courtney Jones. Addie Porter and Sydney Watts found the back of the net to give Vandy the 3-1 advantage at the final horn.

In goal, Sara Wojdelko has posted 10 saves in the last two matches, carrying her to being named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the first time in her career. Wojdelko has appeared in 10 matches this season, registering 23 saves and giving up just four goals. Rachel Deresky and Watts lead the Commodores with 15 points apiece off five goals, five assists and seven goals one assist, respectively.

Florida (4-4-6, 1-3-2) is coming off a 0-0 draw against Georgia last time out. Vera Blom leads the team with seven points off three goals and one assist while keeper Alexa Goldberg has appeared in 14 matches posting 26 saves. Laura Donovan posted a single-game-high four points against Texas off two goals earlier this month. The Gators have seven different goal scorers this year while Vandy has 10.

Friday’s meeting will be the 38th between the programs in a series dating back to 1995 when the Dores took a 2-0 win in Music City. The two teams met last year in Nashville in a back-and-forth game that ended in a 3-3 draw. Florida leads the series 28-5-4 all-time as the Commodores look to pick up their first win in Gainesville since the 2020 season which was pushed to double over time.
