BOSTON – The No. 12 Commodores upset No. 10 Boston in a 19-18 nail-biter Saturday at Nickerson Field. Katherine Denkler, Carter Foote and freshman Alex Priddy each recorded hat tricks in the contest. Denkler netted three goals, while Foote and Priddy tallied five each.
The ‘Dores (2-2), who played their third ranked opponent in four games, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first two minutes off goals from Cara Giordano and Denkler. BU then tied the score at 3-3 with 22:54 left in the period. Vanderbilt proceeded to catch fire, however, scoring five consecutive goals to build up a cushion going into halftime.
After VU carried a 12-7 advantage into the second period, the Terriers (2-2) finally pulled even at 14-14 with 16:25 left. Both teams then jockeyed for the lead for the remainder of the tilt. BU scored its final goal of the game at the 9:49 mark, retaking the advantage at 18-17.
Priddy netted the final two goals of the game for the ‘Dores. She tied the score at 18-18 off an assist from Foote at 8:49 left, then sealed the win with an unassisted shot with 7:30 left.
Sarah Downing found the goal once for Vanderbilt, but contributed six assists to VU’s scoring effort. Giordano finished three points on two goals and an assist. Natalie Wills garnered the second win of her collegiate career in 16 minutes of action.
