NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s basketball dropped a nonconference home matchup 60-48 to Southern Miss on Friday night at Memorial Gymnasium.
Vanderbilt (0-2) was led by 12 points from Jordan Wright. In his first career start, freshman Colin Smith chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds for the Dores.
Southern Miss (2-0) held a four-point halftime edge before Vandy pulled even at 35-35 with 14:14 to go in the second half. After the Golden Eagles regained the lead, the Commodores were down just three with just under four minutes to go. Southern Miss ended the game on a 9-0 run to pull away.
Vandy held a 44-42 rebounding edge, but Southern Miss scored 18 points off turnovers to earn the road win.
The Dores are back in action at Temple on Tuesday.
