NASHVILLE – Ally Carey and Katherine Denkler each notched a hat trick with three goals as the Vanderbilt lacrosse team improved to 5-3 on the season with an 11-6 win over New Hampshire on Wednesday night at the VU Lacrosse Complex.
The Commodores marched out to an early 5-0 lead ten minutes into the game. Amber Casiano’s goal with 9:05 left in the first half brought the Wildcats within three goals with a 6-3 score before Vanderbilt put the game away with four straight goals to make it 10-3.
“Clearly we’re happy to get the win and to have a winning record on the season at this point,” said Commodore head coach Cathy Swezey. “I still think that we need to step up our play and be a little more consistent from game-to-game. I think we did some things well and need to improve in other areas.”
In addition to her three goals, Carey also recorded eight ground balls, three assists, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Hannah Clark, Emily Franke, Kendall Pittinger, and Kelly Connors also added goals for the `Dores.
The lacrosse team returns to action on Sunday, March 20, when they travel to University Park, Pennsylvania, to take on Penn State at 11:00 a.m. CT. The next home game for the `Dores will be on Sunday, March 27, against Stanford.
