KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer tallied its fourth tie of the season, second of conference play, in a 1-1 decision on Sunday afternoon at Tennessee.
Sydney Watts scored the lone goal for the Commodores while the Volunteer’s equalizer came from Macaira Midgely.
Vanderbilt (5-2-4, 0-2-2) tallied 19 shots in the match, including 13 on target, the second most in a match this season. Vandy created opportunities off five corner kicks in the first half but was unable to find the back of the net. Watts scored off an intercepted throw-in, taking her defender one-on-one for the score from outside the 18-yard box in the 57th minute.

Tennessee (6-1-3, 1-0-2) took seven shots in the match, with the equalizer coming in the 83rd minute. Reese Martin crossed from the right corner intended for Luciana Latino but sailed to the top of the 18-yard box where Midgely stood to put it in the back of the net to bring the match even. Tennessee keeper Ally Zazzara made 12 saves on the day, the most by any keeper the Commodores have faced this season.
“I think it’s fair to say we dominated the game for 90 minutes and are disappointed to only have a point to show for it,” said head coach Darren Ambrose. “I am so proud of this team and how they approach each game. We have to keep knocking on the door and it will open for us. We are getting better with every game and I am looking forward to the back half of the season with this team.”
The Commodores return to The Plex on Friday evening, hosting No. 23/19 South Carolina with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The match will be shown on SEC Network+.
