Dores Tally Third Shutout

Vanderbilt tops Kansas State 1-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Hannah McLaughlin led Vanderbilt soccer to its third shutout of the season Thursday night by defeating Kansas State 1-0 at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.

The Commodores outshot the Wildcats 10-7, tallying five shots in each period. Senior keeper Kate Devine was instrumental in the win, gathering a season-high five saves in the match.

The lone goal of the evening came after Kansas State’s Maddie Weichel was issued a yellow card in the box resulting in a penalty shot. McLaughlin stepped up and connected to put the Dores in front in the 66th minute.

Tonight’s win brings Vanderbilt to 3-0-2. The Dores are unbeaten through their first five matches for the second consecutive season and third overall in the Darren Ambrose era.

Vanderbilt returns to the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m. as they host No. 20 Northwestern on SECN+. Last season the two teams met in the second round of the NCAA Tournament when the Dores fell 2-1.
