INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Vanderbilt bowlers enjoyed a monster day Wednesday during the third round of the Junior Gold Championship.
Sophomore Victoria Varano slid up the leaderboard and ended her day in fifth place in the mammoth field of 588 competitors, hoping to earn a berth on the 2023 Junior Team USA. She moved up two spots after checking in with an 842 (+42) total over four games. Wednesday’s results pushed her three-day total to +110, which trails Brooke Salzman’s age bracket leading +226.
Ironically, Varano’s scores were the lowest of the day among Vanderbilt’s three representatives. Incoming freshman Natalie Kent zipped from 20th into ninth place after a steady 852 performance. Kent, +45 for the three days, had a high effort of 234.
The most excitement of the Commodore day came from Haley Lindley, who struggled the first two rounds before soaring from 126th into 38th on the strength of an 878 day. Lindley, one of the nation’s most heavily sought after recruits last year, began her third round with a 172 before churning out 213-236-257. Prior to that effort, she appeared in jeopardy of missing the event’s first Advancer’s Round cut to 84, which comes after Thursday’s play.
