WEST POINT, Miss. – The No. 10/11-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team wrapped up the first day of the 2026 Mossy Oak Collegiate in third place, as the Commodores posted a two-round score of 5-under 571 on Monday.
Vandy carded under par in both rounds on Monday. The Dores finished Round 1 at 3-under 285, then concluded Round 2 at 2-under 286. No. 10/11 Vanderbilt heads into Tuesday’s finale three strokes behind Mississippi State for second place and 12 strokes behind first-place No. 15 Ole Miss.
A pair of Commodores are tied for 11th after 36 holes of play at the Mossy Oak Golf Club, as senior Wells Williams and junior Chase Nevins carded 2-under 142. Each Vanderbilt golfer finished at 1-under 71 in both rounds on Monday.
“It was great to have all five guys in each round today, and I really thought we played solid,” said Scott Limbaugh, Thomas F. Roush, M.D., and Family Vanderbilt Men’s Golf Head Coach. “Chase was in control all day and did a great job sticking to his game plan. We were close to having a really good round this afternoon, but just didn’t score as well as we needed to.”
Nevins carded par or better on 16-straight holes between Rounds 1 and 2. The junior shot even par on a team-best 27 holes, which is tied for the second-most in the tournament. His performance in the first two rounds of the Mossy Oak Collegiate marked the eighth and ninth under-par rounds of the season for Nevins. The Great Falls, Virginia, native has now finished under par in three of his last four rounds.
Williams collected six birdies and finished even par on 26 holes in his homecoming. The West Point, Mississippi, native carded under par for the 23rd and 24th time this season, as he had three birdies in each round. Williams’ score counted in both rounds on Monday, as he has now had his score count in 60 of his last 62 rounds dating back to the 2023-24 season.
All five golfers in the Vanderbilt lineup sit inside the top 35 on the player leaderboard at the Mossy Oak Collegiate at the end of two rounds of play. Freshmen Jon Ed Steed and Will Hartman are tied for 28th at 1-over 145. Hartman opened the tournament by carding 2-under 70 to post his sixth under-par round of the season. Sophomore Ryan Downes opens Tuesday’s Round 3 in a tie for 35th with a three-round score of 2-over 146.
Tom Fischer of Ole Miss and Lukas Boandl of Rice are tied for the lead on the player leaderboard after two rounds at the Mossy Oak Collegiate, as each golfer holds a 36-hole score of 6-under 138.

“I’m excited to see us finish strong tomorrow,” expressed Limbaugh. “We have to have a little higher demand of ourselves and keep challenging ourselves to stay locked in and clean up the little things. This is our final round of the regular season, and it’s important that we finish to our standards.”
