ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The No. 5-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf opened the 2024 Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate by carding 3-under 285, as the Commodores ended the day in fifth place on the team leaderboard.
A pair of Dores sit inside the top 10 on the player leaderboard after 18 holes of play on the Lakeside Course at the Golf Club of Georgia. Senior Jackson Van Paris ended the round in a tie for fifth place, while junior Wells Williams is tied for eighth.
Van Paris led the charge for Vanderbilt in Round 1, concluding the day at 4-under 68. The senior posted a team-best six birdies on Friday while collecting his sixth under-par round of the season. Williams carded 3-under 69 in Round 1 to post his third under-par round of the fall.
Junior John Broderick wrapped up Round 1 in the top 25, as he carded even par to head into Saturday’s Round 2 in a tie for 21st.
“I’m excited to see Jackson and Wells go out and play some really good rounds today,” said Vanderbilt men’s golf head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We knew we had to have people step up, and they did that today, which was big. Wells has put in a lot of quality work the last couple of weeks, and we know what he’s capable of when he’s locked in. Jackson was solid from the start and continues to do the right things. He is playing at a high level for us. John was solid again today and did a great job staying patient.”
No. 4-ranked Virginia is in first place on the team leaderboard after 18 holes of play at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The Cavaliers finished Round 1 at 9-under 279, one stroke ahead of UCLA. Charlotte’s Caden Baker sits atop the player leaderboard. He heads into Saturday at 6-under 66.
Round 2 of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate gets underway Saturday at 8 a.m. CT. Vanderbilt tees off from the 10th tee box between 9:15-9:59 a.m. CT. Fans can follow all of the action at the 2024 Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate via live results via Scoreboard Live powered by Clippd.
“Tomorrow is a big day for us, and we need to be ready to go from the start,” stated Limbaugh. “We can’t be protective and need to show up with a calm mind and aggressive spirit. I believe in this group, and we know there are no free passes to the top, and you have to earn it every step of the way.”
