LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team will resume fall play this weekend at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
All eight members of the team will compete in the event, beginning with Andy Pulido in the qualifying singles draw on Thursday morning. The main draw, which features Charlie Jones, Ryan Lipman, Alex DiValerio, Adam Baker, Bryant Salcedo, Blake Bazarnik and Alex Zotov, begins Friday afternoon, with matches being held at the Boone Tennis Complex as well as the Lexington Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Vanderbilt pairs of DiValerio and Salcedo, Zotov and Jones, and Baker and Lipman will begin main draw play on Friday morning.
The singles and doubles champions from the 12 regional tournaments will advance to the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 4-7.
Nine players ranked in the top 100 of the ITA preseason poll will be playing in Lexington this weekend, including No. 1 J.P. Smith (Tennessee), No. 8 Eric Quigley (Kentucky), No. 10 Austin Childs (Louisville), No. 20 Ryan Lipman (Vanderbilt), No. 21 Rhyne Williams (Tennessee), No. 32 Alex Musialek (Kentucky), No. 63 Simon Childs (Louisville), No. 83 Tennys Sandgren (Tennessee) and No. 93 Grega Teraz (ETSU).
In addition to Vanderbilt and Kentucky, the other Ohio Valley schools participating are Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb, Louisville, Purdue, UT-Chattanooga, Tennessee, IUPUI, Tennessee Tech, East Tennessee State, Butler, Memphis, Ball State, Wright State and Xavier.
Results from the tournament will be posted to vucommodores.com at the conclusion of each day.
