Dores Seek 3-0 Start this Sunday

Vanderbilt hosts Fairfield for a 1 p.m. contest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team returns to Memorial Gymnasium this Sunday, as the Commodores are set to take on Fairfield for a matinee matchup. The game will tip off at 1 p.m. and stream live on SEC Network+.

Starting Five
>> Vanderbilt comes into Sunday’s matchup against Fairfield with a perfect 2-0 record. The Commodores picked up a 70-68 victory at UT Martin on Thursday, where Vanderbilt erased a 12-point deficit late in the third quarter.

>> The Dores will be seeking a 3-0 start for the second-straight season this Sunday at Memorial Gymnasium. The last time Vanderbilt started 2-0 in back-to-back seasons came during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 campaigns.

>> Vandy is 16-3 at home against nonconference opponents under head coach Shea Ralph. The Commodores are 25-14 against non-league foes in the Ralph era.

>> Sunday’s matchup will be the second time ever that Vanderbilt and Fairfield will meet on the hardwood. It will be the first meeting on the mainland of the United States between the Commodores and Stags. The first game took place in Honolulu, Hawaii on Dec. 22, 1999, as part of the Paradise Classic, where Vanderbilt won 94-42.

Game Coverage
Sunday’s contest will stream live at 1 p.m. on SEC Network+ via the Watch ESPN app. Fans can also listen to the game on the Vanderbilt Commodores app or on 94.9 The Fan in the Nashville area.

Memorial Maniacs Hat
The first 200 students at Sunday’s game will receive a free Memorial Maniacs rope hat.

Post-Game Autographs
All fans are invited to stick around after Sunday’s contest against Fairfield for a post-game autograph session and poster giveaway with the 2023-24 Vanderbilt women’s basketball team.

Double Trouble
Junior Sacha Washington and Jordyn Cambridge each recorded a double-double in the win at UT Martin. Washington had a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds against the Skyhawks, while Cambridge collected 16 points and a game-best 12 caroms.

Washington and Cambridge were also the last two Commodores to record a double-double in the same game before Thursday’s performance. The last time they accomplished the feat was March 2, 2022, against Texas A&M in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Cambridge recorded a triple-double with 15 rebounds, 12 points, and 10 assists against the Aggies, while Washington had 12 points and 10 caroms.

Moving Up the Steals List
Jordyn Cambridge collected four steals at UT Martin to move past Dee Davis (2000-04) for sixth on Vanderbilt’s all-time steals list. Cambridge has 243 career steals entering Sunday’s contest and needs 20 more to move past Jade Huntington (263; 1989-92) for fifth on the list.

Lending a Hand
Nearly 70% of the Commodores’ made baskets this season have come off an assist. Vanderbilt has had an assist on 69.4% of its made field goals through two games this season. The Dores rank 34th nationally in assists per game at 20.5.

Graduate student Jordyn Cambridge enters Sunday’s contest with 13 assists, which is the 10th most in NCAA Division I this season.

Scouting the Stags
Like Vanderbilt, Fairfield comes into Memorial Gym sporting a perfect 2-0 record. The Stags picked up an 89-66 win over Lipscomb Friday night in Nashville. Fairfield, who plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, was picked to finish third in the MAAC preseason poll after finishing an even 15-15 last season.

Freshman Meghan Andersen leads the Stags in scoring through two games this season, as the 6-1 forward is averaging 21.0 points this season. She is coming off a 23-point performance at Lipscomb, where she hit five 3-point field goals. Andersen is one of five players averaging double-digit points for Fairfield this season. Fellow freshman Kaety L’Amoreaux is putting up 16.5 points per contest, as she has hit a team-best seven 3-point field goals this season.

The Stags are averaging an impressive 95.0 points per game through two contests this season. Fairfield is shooting 52.1% from the field, and 42.4% from behind the arc. The Stags have three players that have hit five or more 3-pointers this season, as the team is averaging 14 made 3-pointers per game.
