Second Round Results

The #13-ranked Commodore women’s golf team fired a one-under par, 287, on Saturday at the 2014 SEC Women’s Golf Championship and vaulted into the team lead heading into the final round on Sunday at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham. Vanderbilt holds a six-stroke lead on second-place Arkansas, and the Commodores’ Simin Feng and Jennifer Hahn are tied atop the individual leader board with each posting a two-round score of one-under par, 143.

Vanderbilt’s 287 on Saturday was the best team round of the tournament and is the only round under par for the weekend.

Feng posted the team’s low round of the day with a two-under par 70, with Hahn and junior Kendall Martindale not far behind with a pair of 72’s. Freshman Antonia Scherer was the team’s last counter with a one-over par, 73. Junior Irina Gabasa carded a 76 in her second round at Greystone.

The Commodores have won one SEC Championship, and that came in 2004. Vanderbilt finished runner up in 2010 when former Commodore great Marina Alex won medalist honors.

“Today was as solid of a round as I’ve seen from this group this spring,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “They continue to stick to the game plan for each hole and look really confident and relaxed out there.”

Feng and Hahn are tied with Alabama’s Janie Jackson at the top of the individual leader board, and hold a one-stroke lead over LIndsay Gahm of LSU.

“I told them that they’ve slept on the lead a couple of times this spring,” said Allen. “So, they know what to do and that’s continue to trust in the process.”

The final round of the SEC Championship concludes on Sunday in Birmingham.
