Dores Return Home to Close Season

No. 19 Vanderbilt falls 4-1 to No. 13 South Carolina, prepares to finish off regular season against Alabama

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The No. 19 ranked Vanderbilt men’s tennis team dropped a 4-1 contest to No. 13 South Carolina at the Carolina Tennis Complex on Saturday.

It was another back-and-forth battle for the Commodores in doubles. Sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez and Callum Markowitz notched their second win in two matches together as a pair, downing No. 90 Sean Daryabeigi and Max Stenzer 6-3. Both wins for the Dore duo have come over ranked opponents. With the opening point on the line, South Carolina (14-6, 7-5 SEC) fended off the black and gold after claiming wins at Courts 3 and 1.

Vanderbilt (15-11, 4-9 SEC) again fell behind to begin singles play. The Gamecocks pulled ahead 3-0 behind straight-set victories at their No. 3 and No. 2 positions. And as the Commodores did in their most recent matchup versus Florida, they attempted to chip away with their backs against the wall. Senior Nathan Cox posted Vandy’s first point on the board after sinking Max Stenzer 6-3, 6-3. At Court 1, No. 79 Martinez Gomez held a 7-5, 5-2 advantage over No. 12 Lucas da Silva while freshman Jack Satterfield had secured the opening points of a third set against Atakan Karahan. South Carolina, though, was able to seal the match at No. 6 singles and finish off the 4-1 result.

No. 19 Vanderbilt returns back to Nashville for its final match of the 2026 regular season. The Commodores will host Alabama (10-14, 3-9 SEC) on April 10 for the team’s Senior Day at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
