The latest buzz on the web surrounding the Vanderbilt Commodores:
VUCommodores: Ken Flach, who served as Vanderbilt’s head men’s tennis coach from 1997-2005, died on Monday at age 54 after a sudden illness. Flach guided the Commodores to their first-ever NCAA tournament berth in 1999. In 2003, Flach led Vanderbilt to the SEC Tournament championship and secured the school’s second-ever NCAA Tournament championship final appearance in any sport. Vanderbilt’s thoughts and prayers go out to the Flach family.
WBCA: Vanderbilt assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Joy Cheek has been awarded the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 award. The award is given to 30 of the up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches age 30 and under across all levels of the sport. Congrats, Joy!
SEC Network: Vanderbilt women’s basketball coach Stephanie White will join SEC Network this weekend for the Network’s coverage of the NCAA Tournament.
Anchor Down Productions: Vanderbilt student-athlete attended a “financial workout” hosted by Regions Bank and Vanderbilt Football alum Wally Conyers.
SEC: Vanderbilt’s Jayson Gonzalez has been named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after helping the Commodores to a pair of Top-15 wins, the league office announced Monday. Gonzalez hit .364 with five RBIs in three games for the week. Making his return to California, the Covina, Calif., native posted a .462 on-base percentage en route to becoming the first Vandy player to earn an SEC weekly honor this season.

BIG EAST: Vanderbilt sophomore attacker Emily Mathewson was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for Week 5 on Tuesday, continuing Vanderbilt’s perfect streak of representation on the conference’s weekly awards.
