LOS CABOS, Mexico – The ninth-ranked Commodores moved up three positions into a tie for fifth place on the Querencia Cabo Collegiate team leader board on Monday after shooting a second-round 287 at the Los Cabos Querencia course in Los Cabos, Mexico. Vanderbilt is tied with Wake Forest heading into the final round on Tuesday.
“I thought our guys did a good job staying patient out there today in tougher conditions,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We are making the climb as a group right now and how we approach each day affects where we want to go.”
Vanderbilt senior Hunter Stewart is the Commodores’ leading scorer after two rounds with a score of 141 (70-71), which places him in a tie for 11th. Fellow senior Ben Fogler carded the team’s low round of the day with a second-round 69, and is in a tie for 17th on the individual leader board with a total of 143. The Commodores also counted a 73 from freshman Theo Humphrey and a 74 from junior Carson Jacobs.
“Ben played big for us and showed toughness in how he hung in there for the entire round,” said Limbaugh. “It was a solid group effort and we need to be excited for the opportunity to compete again tomorrow.”
South Florida pushed to the top of the leader board on Monday after firing a one-under par, 283. The Bulls lead second-place Stanford by one stroke.
Individually, there is a three-way tie for the lead at seven-under par between the Bulls’ Rigel Fernandes, the Cardinal’s Viraat Badhwar, and Washington’s Cheng-Tsung Pan.
