FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The sixth-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team carded a three-over par, 287, on Saturday in the second round of the Mason Rudolph Championship and maintain their team lead with a two-round total of 567 (280-287), three strokes better than Alabama and Georgia Tech, who are tied for second. Commodore senior Hunter Stewart vaulted to second in the individual standings, one shot behind Robin Sciot-Siegrist of Louisville, after shooting a three-under, 68 on Saturday, and has a two-round score of four-under, 138 (70-68).
Stewart carded six birdies in his round on Saturday, and as a team, Vanderbilt counted 11 for the day.
“First of all, the course played very difficult today with the wind and the hole locations,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “Hunter’s round was really good and he did a great job staying patient and understanding the day. Matthias was very solid all day and I was proud of how he finished the round. As a team, we did a lot of very good things, we just didn’t do all the simple things as good today as we did yesterday.”
The Commodores picked up where they left off on Friday and have two players in the top six on the individual leader board. Joining Stewart is sophomore Matthias Schwab, who is in sixth with a two-under par, 141 (69-71).
Vanderbilt counted Stewart’s 68, Schwab’s 71, Carson Jacobs’ 73, and Zack Jaworski’s 75 on Saturday.
Senior Jordan Janico leads a group of six Vanderbilt players competing as individuals with a three-over, 144 (70-74), which ties him for 17th overall.
“We need to be excited about the opportunity we have tomorrow and be able to focus on doing the simple things better,” said Limbaugh.
The third and final round of the Mason Rudolph concludes Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club’s South Course.
