NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt lacrosse team continues BIG EAST action at home Wednesday afternoon, welcoming the Cincinnati Bearcats at 3:00 pm CT.
Vandy looks to break a six-game losing streak, and earn its first conference victory of the season.
This past weekend, the Commodores fell 7-3 in Philadelphia to the Temple Owls. A low scoring contest, VU took 17 shots in the competition, and went 0-3 on free position shots. Having fallen in three games by two or less goals, the ‘Dores have been working on shooting drills throughout practice.
A brick wall in goal all season for the ‘Dores, Callahan Kent, sits fourth in the country in saves per game, averaging 10.67. The junior comes into the midweek matchup fifth in the nation in saves, boasting 128.
The Bearcats have also fallen in six-straight contests, not scoring more than eight goals in all six outings. Last season, the Commodores overpowered the Bearcats on the road in Ohio, 13-8.
Cincinnati’s main offensive threat comes in redshirt-senior Megan Bell who leads her team in scoring (21 goals), assists (13), shots (68), points (34) and draws (42). Bell and two other Bearcats have both scored in the double-digits this season. All three student-athletes shoot 68% or better heading into Wednesday’s game.
Bearcat goalie, Meg Gulmi, heads into the game with 106 goals against her, and has saved less then 50% of the 259 shots she’s faced. Gulmi comes off a double-digit performance last weekend, with 12 saves against the Villanova Wildcats.
