FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Vanderbilt swim team escaped Nashville and winter storm Jonas just in time, as the Commodores finished in second place following day one of their first quad meet of the season.
Squaring off against Arkansas, Houston and Clemson’s diving team, the Commodores began the day taking second in the 200 freestyle with Johanna Goldblatt, Brenda Cha, Kayla Moran and Hannah Martin swimming in at a time of 1:37.19.
The Dores followed earning second and third in the 100 breast. Junior Kathryn Coughlin led the Dores in the event, coming in at 1:04.47. Kara Lucenti followed close behind with a 1:04.85.
Arkansas just edged Vandy out of a podium finish in three events; Moran in the 200 fly (2:04.29), Breanna Sapienza in the 50 free (24.20), and Lucenti in the 200 IM (2:08.49).
Goldblatt, Lucenti, Sapienza and Kayla Moran capped the first day of competition with a second place finish in the 400 medley. The team came in at 3:51.36.
Day two of competition will begin Saturday morning at 10:00 am CT.
