Dores in Second at Crooked Stick

Senior John Augenstein and sophomore Reid Davenport lead Vanderbilt

CARMEL, Ind. – Senior John Augenstein and sophomore Reid Davenport each carded a 4-under-par 140 in the first two rounds of play at the Crooked Stick Collegiate on Monday, which places the duo in a tie for third on the individual leaderboard. As a team, the Commodores are second with a team score of 2-under-par 574, two shots behind team leader Georgia heading into the final round of play on Tuesday.

Two other Commodores, junior Harrison Ott and freshman William Moll, are in in the clubhouse with each carding a 3-over 147 on Monday, which ties the two for 18th individually, Sophomore Michael Shears is tied for 42nd with a total of 151 (76-75) after two rounds of play.

Augenstein and Davenport trail first-day individual leader Tyler Leach of Marquette by four shots.

“It was a long day on a really good golf course,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “The first round was solid led by John and Reid. They both played really well and were very much in control. William also did a good job finishing the first round which was big. We got off to a much slower start in the afternoon, but the guys stayed patient and battled it in, which was a good step for us. Harrison did a great job staying positive and got some putts to drop on the back nine. We had all five guys in it today, stayed focused coming in, and competed at a high level. Those are all important traits that I believe make up tough teams.”

The Commodores paced the field in par-three scoring (3.08) and were second in par-four scoring (4.11) and birdies (34).

The Commodores will tee off at 8:54 CDT with Georgia and Marquette on Tuesday.

“Tomorrow is our next opportunity to take another step,” said Limbaugh. “I am excited that the guys are seeing some progress and stacking some moments together that help build trust. We have to embrace the fight tomorrow, keep learning, and control the things we can control which includes our self-talk and body language.”
