Dores Head to Notre Dame

Three student-athletes will compete in Bobby Bayliss Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Three members of the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team travel to South Bend, Indiana, for the Bobby Bayliss Invitational hosted by Notre Dame Friday through Sunday.

Competing for the Dores are sophomore Mitchell Deames, freshman Oscar Jensen and fifth-year student-athlete Callum Rendle. 

Competing Schools: DePaul, Drake, Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Western Michigan

About the Commodores: Former Vanderbilt All-SEC player and NCAA team finalist Scott Brown begins his head coaching career leading the Dores. He returns to the Black and Gold after helping lead defending NCAA champion Virginia to back-to-back titles as associate head coach. On the court, sophomore Nathan Cox is ranked No. 119 in singles and No. 40 in doubles with senior Jeremie Casabon in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason national rankings. The Commodores finished the 2022-23 season at No. 6 in the Ohio Valley Region of the 2023 ITA Year-End Regional Rankings.

Last Time Out: At the ITA All-American Championship, Joubert Klopper scored a win over a nationally-ranked opponent from Duke in the first round of qualifying, and Juan Lopez won three matches in the pre-qualifying segment of the event while Michael Ross added two victories and Jeremie Casabon one. The Dores also competed at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Georgia, where fifth-year student-athlete Alexandre Hillhouse made his Vanderbilt debut with wins over Georgia and Clemson opponents and Paul Wang defeated his Georgia Tech opponent. Hillhouse and Rendle also defeated a team from host Georgia.

Up Next: The Dores travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the ITA Regional Championship, Oct. 12-16.
