NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt was defeated, 16-8, by No. 10 Florida on Saturday at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
The Commodores held the Gators to just a single goal in the first quarter and led 3-1 after the first 15 minutes.
Callie Sundin scored Vanderbilt’s first goal off an assist from Maddie Souza. Sundin’s 19th goal on the season tied the game at 1-1 midway through the first quarter.
Souza scored the first of her two goals just moments later and Kayla Rieu scored to put the Dores in front by two with 1:48 left in the first.
Florida gained control in the second quarter with seven unanswered goals to lead 8-3 at halftime.
The Gators maintained their momentum to start the second half and increased their lead to 12-3 before Ella Smith scored with 6:10 left in the third to stop the run.
The Dores scored four times in the final quarter but Florida stayed in front, winning 16-8.
Vanderbilt (8-6, 1-2 AAC) goes on the road next Saturday to Old Dominion for a noon CT contest.
