STANFORD, Calif. – After a nearly three-hour delay due to wet courts, the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team was unable to hold off the Nebraska Huskers in the opening round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the campus of Stanford University.
Vanderbilt picked up the doubles point to begin the match with a 1-0 lead. Ryan Lipman and Adam Baker quickly picked up an 8-1 win in the No. 1 match over Calin Paar and Robert Schulze. Alex DiValerio and Bryant Salcedo dropped the No. 3 match, 8-5, but Charlie Jones and Alex Zotov picked up an 8-6 win on court 2 to claim the point for the ‘Dores.
In singles play, Zotov and Baker dropped their matches at the No. 6 and 2 positions, respectively, and Nebraska jumped to a 2-1 lead. Salcedo tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory in the No. 5 match. Lipman and Blake Bazarnik, both playing in tough three-set matches, were unable to defeat their Husker opponents, and Nebraska claimed a 4-2 win.
The Commodores will play Santa Clara in the consolation match Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The Broncos dropped their opening round match to Stanford, 4-0. Live scoring and video of the match will be available here.
