Dores Fall to Fourth-Ranked JMU

Paige Gunning becomes Vanderbilt’s all-time leader in saves.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt lacrosse fell to fourth-ranked James Madison on Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first 10 minutes of the game, James Madison connected on back-to-back goals to lead Vanderbilt 2-0 at the end of the first. The Dores led in shots, draw controls and ground balls through the first period.

James Madison tacked on eight goals in the second period, leaving Vanderbilt scoreless at half, 10-0.

Sophomore Nancy Halleron scored the lone goal of the day midway through the third quarter, adding to her team-leading total of 18 on the season.

Shortly after Halleron’s goal, James Madison took their first timeout of the half. Their set play coming back out was able to penetrate the Commodores, but Paige Gunning stepped up as the last line of defense, stopping a head-on shot to earn her sixth save of the day.

With that save, Gunning tallied her 489th save and became the all-time save leader in Vanderbilt history, breaking Ashely Bastinelli’s 18-year-old record of 488 saves (2002-05).

JMU added four goals in the fourth to make the final 18-1.
