WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis saw its four-match win streak come to an end at the hands of the No. 1 ranked defending champion Wake Forest, who picked up a 4-0 victory over the Dores on Saturday en route to a qualifying spot at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

Vanderbilt men’s tennis saw its four-match win streak come to an end at the hands of the No. 1 ranked defending champion Wake Forest, who picked up a 4-0 victory over the Dores on Saturday en route to a qualifying spot at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

The Demon Deacons wasted no time in securing the doubles point, producing two 6-1 victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 position. The No. 42 ranked duo of Danil Panarin and freshman Jack Satterfield trailed 5-2 when the point was clinched. Vanderbilt left it all on the court to begin singles play. The Dores sent three matches to a seven-point tiebreak set at 6-6, and Panarin also took No. 15 Luca Pow to 5-5 before dropping the opener 7-5.
Despite highlights moments from freshman Hoyoung Roh, who snatched the first set 7-6 (6) over Aryan Shah, or senior Nathan Cox after forcing a third frame at the No. 6 position, Wake Forest wore down Vanderbilt throughout the match. The Demon Deacons built large leads at multiple different positions as the second set went on, and Wake Forest ultimately clinched the match 4-0. Cox came up just short of delivering his fifth straight singles win; the senior held a 4-0 advantage in the third set against Charlie Robertson.
Vandy heads back to Nashville and returns to play Thursday, Jan. 29 against Middle Tennessee at 5 p.m. For more information, updates and exclusive game day content, follow the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team, @VandyMTennis, on Instagram and X.
