Fourth-quarter surge not enough for Vandy

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Vanderbilt lacrosse erased a five-goal deficit in the final quarter, but 22nd-ranked Penn State’s Gretchen Gilmore led the Nittany Lions with three goals to lead the hosts past the Commodores, 12-11, at Panzar Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Vanderbilt (6-5) outscored Penn State 4-0 in the final quarter. Cate Bradley registered her second hat trick in the last three games and has netted eight goals in the last three outings. Ella Smith registered two goals and dished two assists while grabbing a team-high six draw controls. Freshman Anna Taraboletti scored her tenth goal of the season. Penn State (7-5) had Kayla Abernathy, Kristin O’Neill and Kara Nealon each find the back of the cage twice. Gilmore posted four points for the Nittany Lions while O’Neill and Nealon added three points each.

The Dores return to conference play Saturday, traveling to Old Dominion. The game will start at 11 a.m. CT and be seen on ESPN+.
