NASHVILLE, Tenn. — South Florida used a four-goal third quarter to pull away from Vanderbilt in a 12-9 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
Vanderbilt (8-9, 3-3 American) led 7-6 at halftime after closing the second quarter on a late free-position goal by Gabby Putman. The Bulls responded in the third, scoring four consecutive goals to take a 10-7 advantage and seize control.
Shea Panzik led the Commodores with four goals, while Molly Krestinski added a goal and an assist. Anna Szporn, Logan Risenhoover, Putman and Brooke Baker each found the back of the net.
Putman surpassed the 100-career mark for draw controls, finishing with 10 wins on the circle. It marks the third time during her rookie season recording at least 10 draws in a game. Defensively, Alex Gladding caused three turnovers, while Emme Martin made eight saves in goal.
South Florida (11-4, 6-0 American), the American Conference Regular Season Champions, was paced by Sofia Chepenik, who scored a game-high six goals and added an assist. Ava Uphues added two goals and an assist, while Elise Grissett finished with a goal and an assist.
The Commodores scored twice in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to two, but a late goal by South Florida sealed the win.
Prior to the game, Vanderbilt honored eight seniors in Chloe Bethea-Jones, Katherine Ernst, Amiyah Turner, Logan Risenhoover, Molly Joyce, Emma Davis, Garrison Morrill and Molly Krestinski for their contributions to the program in a special pregame ceremony.
