NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis is set to finish off the regular season at home, beginning with an afternoon matchup against Arkansas on Thursday.
The Dores enter tomorrow’s contest winners of back-to-back matches after ending its losing streak with a 4-0 win over Ole Miss before downing Eastern Illinois 7-0 on Saturday. The team moved up eight spots from No. 58 to No. 50 in this week’s ITA rankings. Junior Nathan Cox and senior Michael Ross remain the lone members of the team ranked, coming in at No. 40 this week. The pair are tied for the team highs in overall doubles wins at 10 and ranked victories with four. Five Dores now own double-digit singles wins, including junior Tighe Brunetti and freshman Callum Markowitz, who reached those marks over the weekend. Fifth year Henry Ruger holds the team lead with 16 total singles victories.
Arkansas comes to Nashville also on a two-match streak with wins over Alabama State and LSU. The Razorbacks hold a slight 18-15 edge all-time against the Dores, which includes last season’s 7-0 sweep. Lukas Palovic leads the hogs in the ITA singles rankings at No. 48 with an overall record of 15-5. He is 5-2 against nationally ranked opponents. In doubles, Arkansas brings a top-20 duo to Music City in No. 19-ranked Connor Smillie and Jakub Vrba. The pair are 15-8 overall this season, 9-5 at No. 1 doubles, and have produced five ranked wins thus far.
No. 58 Vanderbilt (10-13, 2-10 SEC) hosts No. 41 Arkansas (16-11, 4-8 SEC) with play set to begin at 3:30 p.m. Live streaming will be available online with live stats accessible here at the start of the match.
