HUNTINGTON, W. VA. – The Vanderbilt swim team secured first place finishes in 10 of 16 events during Saturday’s tri-meet against Marshall and Xavier. Kara Lucenti lead the `Dores boasting three individual first place finishes.
“I thought it was a good day of racing,” said head coach Jeremy Organ. “We got to have looks at some girls in some different events and are happy with what we saw. I thought Carrie Bencic and Kayla Moran had a great day of racing. It was great to see those two do well today as both have been great in practice.”
The Commodores extended their win streak against Marshall to six years after defeating the herd; 150-143. In the first meeting between the two schools the Commodores defeated Xavier; 189-73.
Sophomore Kayla Moran defeated Marshall in the 100-yard butterfly for the second year in a row, improving her time by two seconds. The Commodores also clinched first place for the second time in the 400-relay. Moran, Brenda Cha, Hannah Martin, and Madeline Hunt swam a time of 1:37.07.
The Commodores are back in action on Nov. 8, as the `Dores take on Tulane and Western Kentucky at the Centennial Sportsplex. Saturday’s tri-meet begins at 11 a.m., with free admission.
