“It certainly wasn’t the day we had hoped for, but I am proud of the fight our guys showed,” said Vanderbilt men’s golf head coach Scott Limbaugh. “Our competitive character is always being shaped, good and bad, so you have to be willing to fight with whatever you have. There are a lot of things we have to do better, and it’s up to all of us to take ownership of that. We have to keep wanting to do the right things, over and over, and not let our egos shape our thinking. When you want to do what’s best for the team, you show growth.”

Senior Gordon Sargent went 1-under 69 in Round 2 of the Ben Hogan Collegiate. The All-American ended Monday in a tie for 34th at 4-over 144. Sargent collected a team-best 11 birdies in the first two rounds, which are third-most in the tournament through 36 holes of play. The senior also carded 3-under on par-5 holes, which is the second-best par-5 score in the field through two rounds.

Sophomore Rowan Sullivan was one of two golfers to collect an eagle on Day 1 of the Ben Hogan Collegiate, finishing the par-5 Hole 1 at 2-under in Round 2.

No. 8-ranked Oklahoma leads after two rounds of play in the Lone Star State, as the Sooners carded 9-under 551. North Carolina’s David Ford and Texas’ Daniel Bennett are tied for first place on the player leaderboard at 6-under 134.
