NORFOLK, Va. – Molly Finlay led Vanderbilt to their first American Athletic Conference win of the season, taking down Old Dominion 9-5 Saturday afternoon at L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Vanderbilt (7-5, 1-2 AAC) had six different scorers during the day. Finlay led all scorers with three goals, her fifth hat trick of the year. Ella Smith added two goals, two draw controls and one ground ball. Senior Maggie Arnold posted a career-best three caused turnovers while goalie Paige Gunning posted a season-high 13 saves.
The Commodores tallied six goals in the second quarter to pull away from the Monarchs. Alex Gladding picked up four ground balls while Kemper Robinson added three draw controls
Old Dominion (3-10, 0-3 AAC) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the first quarter with goals from Sydney Taylor and Lilly Siskind. Emma Arnold led the Monarchs with two goals. Lauren Carey had a game-high six draw controls. Jenna Peccia had nine saves in goal.
The Commodores return home for a two-game stretch kicking off on Wednesday. Vandy will host Coastal Carolina at noon on ESPN+.
