Dores Drop to No. 9 Crimson Tide

Vanderbilt continues its road stand Friday at Georgia

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Vanderbilt soccer dropped its second conference match of the season at No. 9 Alabama, 1-0, on Sunday night at the Alabama Soccer Stadium.

Vanderbilt held the Crimson Tide scoreless through the first 40 minutes of the match, but Alabama found the back of the net to score the lone goal of the contest.

Senior keeper Kate Devine registered three saves in the first frame on Alabama’s four shots on goal. Devine finished with five saves, matching her season high (vs. Kansas St. 8/31/23).

After tonight’s match, Devine has the fifth-best save percentage in the conference (.781) and is tied for sixth-most total saves with 25 on the year.

The Commodores outshot the Crimson Tide 13-9 in the match, holding Alabama to the second-lowest number of shots this season. The Dores earned nine corner kicks, the second most this season (10 vs. Ole Miss, 9/21/23).

“I’m proud of how we attacked the game,” said head coach Darren Ambrose. “We created chances but came away empty tonight. That’s why we are so disappointed. I loved the fight and toughness we showed all over the field. We lacked some composure in the final third but if we maintain that intensity and add a little composure, we will find goals.”
