NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 13 Vanderbilt men’s tennis fell 4-0 to No. 3 Texas at the Lummis Family Tennis Center on Friday.
After dropping a match at No. 3 doubles, Vanderbilt (13-6, 4-4 SEC) rebounded behind its top pair of No. 29 senior Nathan Cox and freshman Hoyoung Roh. The pair downed Abel Forger and Kalin Ivanovski 6-4, marking their fourth straight win together and fifth SEC victory as a duo. Texas (15-6, 6-3 SEC), though, controlled play at Court 2 and ultimately claimed the doubles point with a 6-4 win from No. 23 Sebastian Gorzny and Lucas Marionneau.
The Dores snatched two early first sets, but the Longhorns continued to dictate the momentum. No. 4 Gorzny posted Texas’ second point on the board at Court 1 with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of No. 111 sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez. Cox was stymied in a back-and-forth match that was decided by just six total points, falling 7-6 (4), 6-4 to No. 43 Sebastian Eriksson. The Longhorns delivered the clinch point at No. 6 singles as Marionneau fended off junior Hugo Coquelin 6-1, 7-6 (2).
No. 13 Vanderbilt returns to action on Sunday; the Dores host No. 11 Georgia (13-5, 5-4 SEC) and Eastern Kentucky (9-12) as part of a Sunday doubleheader at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
