LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Vanderbilt could not match shots with a near-flawless performance from Arkansas State on Friday, losing 2-0 in the first match of the NCAA Championship.
Vandy now faces McKendree, the top seed, at 5 p.m. Friday in an elimination match.
The Red Wolves opened the competition with a 1,059-1,015 win in the traditional game to take a 1-0 lead in the mega-match format. Arkansas State then won the 5-game Baker contest 1,094-1,045 to advance to face Nebraska in the winner’s bracket.
