NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt lacrosse team could not overcome the strong second half of visiting Temple in a 13-12 defeat in American Athletic Conference play on Friday at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
The Commodores (11-5, 6-3 AAC) held a 9-6 halftime edge over the Owls (11-3, 7-2 AAC) but were outscored 7-3 over the final 30 minutes.
The Dores posted a number of strong individual performances on the day led by Callie Sundin’s four goals, three goals and two assists from Griffin Gearhardt, three goals and an assist from Bri Gross and four assists off the stick of Gabby Fornia.

Vanderbilt scored six of the game’s first seven goals for a 6-1 lead with 13:21 left in the opening half. Gearhardt tallied two goals in the final eight minutes of the half to go with one from Elizabeth Scarrone as the Dores took a 9-6 halftime lead.
Temple’s offensive push led to the first four goals of the second half. A goal from Gross stopped the run and tied the score at 10-10 with 15:10 to go. Sundin’s goal with 11:35 left put the Dores back in front at 11-10, but Temple answered with three goals down the stretch to clinch the victory.

Gross also led the Dores with six draw controls and tied for the team lead with four ground balls.
In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Paige Gunning made 10 saves on the day.
The Dores and Owls will close the regular season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
