PHILADELPHIA – Bella Mastropietro led all scorers with four goals and one assist as Temple came back to beat Vanderbilt 10-8 in the American Athletic Conference opener at Howarth Field on Saturday afternoon.
Temple (6-3, 1-0) scored five straight goals midgame to secure their first win over the Commodores in the last three meetings. The Owls saw a hat trick from Julie Schickling and two goals from Amelia Wright. Katie Shallow caused four turnovers and had four ground balls while Mackenzie Roth had three assists. Mastropietro also added seven draw controls and caused one turnover.
Vanderbilt (5-3, 0-1) had six scorers in the game, led by Molly Krestinski who registered her second hat trick of the season. All three of Krestinski’s goals came in the first half. Logan Risenhoover and Ella Smith each found the back of the cage for the Dores and each dished one assist. Lexie de Roziere posted a career-high 13 saves, the most by a Commodore in a single game this season. Taylor Sampone grabbed seven ground balls, also a career-high.
